The Role
We’re looking for an Applications Engineer who doesn’t just respond to requirements—but translates complex customer needs into smart, efficient, and technically sound solutions. If you enjoy owning the full lifecycle of engineered solutions—from concept through proposal—and thrive at the intersection of engineering and sales, this role puts you exactly where you can make an impact.
What You'll Do
You’ll operate as a trusted technical partner to both customers and internal teams—bringing clarity, precision, and creativity to every project.
Lead the technical solutioning for medium to highly complex customer projects
Translate customer requirements into optimized process designs and equipment selections
Perform calculations and analysis to validate system performance and feasibility
Develop cost estimates and detailed proposals that align with customer needs and business goals
Collaborate with Sales to win projects through compelling technical solutions
Work with drafters to produce application drawings and documentation
Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Identify and manage technical and commercial risks within proposals
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing across the team
What You'll Bring
You’re analytical, customer-focused, and confident working independently on complex challenges.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
5+ years of experience in applications engineering, ideally within industrial or water process environments
Hands-on experience with industry equipment and system design
Ability to perform process calculations and water quality projections
Strong understanding of equipment platforms, components, and system integration
Proven ability to manage complex work with minimal oversight
Solid grasp of sales processes, proposal development, and costing strategies
Working knowledge of contracts, risk mitigation, and financial principles
Proficiency in MS Office tools
Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting technical solutions to customers
The estimated salary range for this position is $ 95K to $110K. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range. At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
Join the global Xylem team to be a part of innovative technology solutions transforming water usage, conservation, and re-use. Our products impact public utilities, industrial sectors, residential areas, and commercial buildings, with a commitment to providing smart metering, network technologies, and advanced analytics for water, electric, and gas utilities. Partner with us in creating a world where water challenges are met with ingenuity and dedication; where we recognize the power of inclusion and belonging in driving innovation and allowing us to compete more effectively around the world.
At Xylem, you'll not only contribute to solving water issues but also have the chance to make a difference through our paid Volunteer Program, Xylem Watermark. We prioritize our employees' well-being through inclusion and belonging as well as our Employee Resource Groups (ERG). Proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity (including disability and veterans) and Affirmative Action workplace, Xylem fosters an inclusive environment free from discrimination or harassment.
