Application Engineer – Grinding (CNC) | MUST HAVE GRINDING EXPERIENCE
Are you passionate about precision manufacturing and solving complex machine challenges? We’re seeking a hands-on Application Engineer with strong, proven grinding machine experience (this is a MUST HAVE) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, customer collaboration, and advanced CNC grinding technology.
You will play a critical role in driving customer success—from concept through full production—while directly supporting sales growth through your technical expertise in grinding applications.
🔧 What You’ll Do
Lead with your grinding expertise to analyze customer drawings and requirements, developing optimized grinding processes (OD/ID, surface, or specialty grinding)
Recommend best-fit CNC grinding machines, configurations, and options based on application needs
Design and execute complete turnkey grinding solutions from concept to production
Select and specify grinding wheels, tooling, and work holding; collaborate with vendors on setup and optimization
Integrate machine options and accessories to maximize grinding performance and efficiency
Perform test grinding, validation runs, and cycle time studies
Develop, refine, and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code and conversational), with a focus on grinding cycles
Source vendor quotes and prepare detailed, technically accurate customer proposals
Act as the primary technical expert for grinding applications between internal teams, dealers, and customers
🏭 Installation & Training
Lead or support CNC grinding machine installations at customer sites
Train operators and technicians on:
Grinding machine operation
Process optimization and troubleshooting
Safety procedures specific to grinding environments
Preventive maintenance best practices
✈️ Travel Requirements
Travel up to 50% nationwide to support customer applications and installations
Ability to work on-site at our Vernon Hills, IL office when not traveling
