We're hiring Appian Developers to sustain and enhance a real-time correspondence tracking application supporting a federal agency's executive office. Built on the Appian Cloud Platform with a MySQL database, the system is used daily to route and track correspondence packages across the Department.
This is a hands-on build-and-run role: you'll work an active Jira backlog, ship break-fix and minor enhancement releases on an incremental cadence, and keep a production system healthy, secure, and accessible.
What you'll do
Design, configure, develop, and maintain Appian applications - interfaces, process models, records, expression rules, integrations, and data stores
Develop and tune MySQL queries, views, and schema changes supporting the Appian data layer
Work the Jira backlog collaboratively with the customer using Agile best practices; deploy prioritized break-fix features and minor enhancements on an incremental release schedule
Promote changes through Development → Test → Production under controlled, rollback-capable change management procedures
Build and execute a testing program covering functional, integration, and regression testing; report results with quantifiable metrics (test cases pass/fail, requirements pass/fail, defect counts by severity)
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, outages, and defects - meeting a 1-hour help desk response standard during 9:00 AM–5:30 PM ET
Remediate security vulnerabilities through patching, code changes, and configuration hardening in coordination with the agency OCIO
Configure and maintain system permissions, roles, and application settings
Support ATO sustainment activities, vulnerability scan response, and security documentation
Maintain technical documentation and support knowledge transfer
Required qualifications
Active Appian certification applicable to the role (Appian Certified Associate Developer, Senior Developer, or Lead Developer)
Minimum 3 years developing or supporting U.S. Federal Government information systems of comparable size, scope, complexity, and technical environment
Minimum 3 years of experience with Agile product development and implementation
Hands-on Appian development: process models, SAIL interfaces, expression rules, record types, integrations/web APIs, and data store configuration
Solid SQL / MySQL skills - query development, performance tuning, and schema management
Experience with defect tracking, release management, and multi-environment deployment
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust / agency suitability determination.
Preferred qualifications
Experience with Appian Cloud administration, upgrades, and health monitoring
Prior support to a federal civilian agency
Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and vulnerability remediation workflows
Working knowledge of Section 508 / WCAG 2.x Level AA accessibility requirements
Experience with automated regression testing and CI/CD for low-code platforms
U.S. Citizens/Green Card ONLY due to legal or government contract requirement
