Position Overview
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Airframe Design Engineer to join its aerospace engineering team in Bangalore. The selected candidate will contribute to the design and development of airframe structures for both manned and unmanned aerial platforms and play a key role throughout the product development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in aerostructures, airframe design principles, materials, loads, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies, along with hands-on experience in aerospace design tools and practices.
Key Responsibilities
Airframe Design & Development
Design and develop airframe structural components, assemblies, and system installations using metallic and composite materials for manned and unmanned aircraft platforms.
Support all phases of the airframe development lifecycle, from concept design through production support.
Ensure compliance with aerospace design standards, customer requirements, and program objectives.
CAD Modeling & Documentation
Create, review, and validate 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks.
Ensure adherence to industry-standard modeling and drafting practices.
Develop and maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) with proper configuration management, version control, and traceability.
Weight Management & Structural Integration
Perform aircraft weight estimation, tracking, and control activities throughout the design lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with weight budgets and aircraft performance requirements.
Support system integration activities and airframe production processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Stress Analysis, Manufacturing, Quality, Systems Engineering, and Production teams.
Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and issue-resolution activities.
Act as the primary technical interface with production agencies to ensure alignment on design objectives and deliverables.
Program & Team Support
Support program reviews, technical meetings, and design review boards.
Participate in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning.
Mentor junior engineers by sharing technical expertise, best practices, and design methodologies.
Assist in resource planning, hiring, onboarding, and technical evaluations as required.
Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Technical Requirements
3–7 years of relevant experience in Aerostructures or Airframe Design, preferably involving fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft platforms.
Experience across the complete airframe design lifecycle.
Hands-on expertise in:
CATIA V5
SolidWorks
3D Modeling & 2D Detailing
Structural Components Design (Machined Parts, Sheet Metal, and Composite Structures)
Strong understanding of:
Aerospace Materials
Structural Fasteners
Special Manufacturing Processes
Airframe Design Principles
Loads and Structural Design Considerations
Good knowledge of:
ASME Y14.5
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Aerospace Drawing Standards
Communication & Professional Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare technical reports, proposals, and Statements of Work (SOWs).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
