IHI Turbo America is seeking an Aftermarket Product Development Engineer. This position could be located at our Shelbyville, IL facility or Southfield, MI location.
The Aftermarket Product Development Engineer is responsible for design, development, testing, and documentation of multiple concurrent projects in support of existing products, programs, new applications, and new product research and development. This role will own the technical development of new boosting applications for the aftermarket group and requires knowledge of engine matching, compressor and turbine aerodynamics, validation testing and the ability to collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams across the globe.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Mechanical Engineering Degree
Experience: 3+ Years automotive and product design experience preferred. Proficient in Catia and MS Office; experience with Sage ERP a plus.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design new turbocharger and supercharger components as required.
Perform structural and aerodynamic analysis as needed.
Create layout in CAD system.
Select suitable materials and manufacturing processes, as well as work with suppliers to achieve design goals.
Develop turbocharger and supercharger components to meet design performance, cost and durability targets.
Specify test criteria and procedures; design special fixtures, instrumentation, and equipment as required; conduct or supervise running of tests, analyze data, write reports, and implement design changes required.
Perform “matching” to recommend optimum supercharger/turbocharger specifications for customer rating requirements. Matching includes selection of turbo frame size, compressor sizing turbine housing A/R determination, selection of bearing housing type, as well as special components, such as wastegate and variable geometry turbines.
Act as a liaison with IHI, customers and suppliers to promote successful programs; including providing specifications and design criteria to performance partners.
Create and lead technical presentations in support of program objectives and acquisition of new programs.
Collaborate with the IHI Turbo America Aftermarket team on feasibility discussions for new products.
Work with IHI to obtain necessary support, both engineering and hardware, to satisfy customers’ needs. Work with suppliers to obtain high-quality, low-cost parts.
Support existing production programs. Evaluate and implement engineering change requests; trouble shoot problems in assembly or production testing, prepare and review production releases
Create part numbers and descriptions based on ITA numbering system.
Document change control for new and existing documents.
Other duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Actual base salaries will vary and may be above or below the recommended pay range based on factors such as but not limited to location, relevant experience and performance. Additionally, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan to enhance their overall total compensation package when ITA and their business units achieve annual business and financial targets.
Base Pay $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 Annually
